Welcome to The Apostolic Truth Ministries continuing series on Problematic pentecostal Doctrine. Please check back often as this page, and in fact this series is ever expanding.
So please find a comfortable chair, a nice hot cup of coffee, and of course your Bible[King James Version] and join us as we allow God's Holy Inerrant Inspired Word for man to unfold in front of our very eyes.
I have provided a feedback form at the bottom of this page for your considered opinion to be expressed. Your comments may furnish future pages and(or) series articles.
As with the previous examinations, we require certain rules to arrive at any reasonable conclusion. So let us use the same rules in this discussion also.
From this passage we see that scripture is of no private interpretation. I do believe you will agree with that.
But let me make sure you understand.
I can not hold scripture to mean one thing and you hold scripture to mean something else. Once again, the Holy Ghost leads us in our understanding of scripture. He can not possible lead us in different directions.
The Pope is not the only one who can read and interpret scripture.
David Koresh, of the Branch Davidian, comes to mind first. He held a private interpretation of the book of Revelation. That interpretation may well have setup the massacre that took place in Waco.
No single verse of scripture can be used to form doctrine. The Bible was written in paragraphs and pages just as books are today.
Couple quick examples, I am sure you will agree with. The Snake Handlers took a single verse from Mark chapter 16 to create the call to Take up The Serpent. By the middle of the last century almost all forty eight states had passed laws prohibiting snake handling in religious services and YES with good reason.
Another one that comes to mind is the Mormon call to baptize the dead. Yes that is mentioned one time in scripture.
That is the most often misquoted scripture in the whole Bible!!
Nicodemus was(is) not the only one who does not understand what Jesus so plainly said here.
As with the earlier series, I want to take you through a very thorough discussion of the history of baptism - regeneration, the doctrine involved, and a detailed study of scripture.
It is important for everyone to understand that The Apostolic Truth Ministries does not question the salvation or love of Jesus Christ of any individual or ministry discussed on this site. We do take exception to their doctrinal stances in many areas. We do decry many of their practices. The Apostolic Truth Ministries is concerned with upholding the integrity of God's Word and speaking the truth in love in an uncompromising manner. |
